Convicted sex offender recaptured after walking away from Portage work release employer

BOWLING GREEN — A Northwest Community Correction Center inmate convicted of sexual assault was recaptured Wednesday after he left his work-release employer Tuesday afternoon, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Franklin P. Damon, Jr., 39, walked away from the employer, located along South Dixie Highway near Portage, the sheriff’s office reported. He remained on the lose until about 4 p.m. Wednesday, when he was recaptured in rural southern Wood County.

The Hancock County sheriff, and police from North Baltimore and Bowling Green assisted the Wood County sheriff.

Damon was convicted in Wood County Common Pleas Court on gross sexual imposition and is classified as a Tier I sex offender.
