Trooper pulls man from vehicle after crash

PEMBERVILLE, Ohio — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper pulled a Helena, Ohio man from his vehicle Thursday after he crashed it into a flooded ditch on U.S. 23, north of Gibsonburg Road, in Freedom Township. 

Devin Foreman, 28, was transported to Mercy Health St. Charles Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, troopers said. 

Trooper B. L. Matthews was making a traffic stop at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday when he saw Mr. Foreman’s vehicle run a stop sign at State Rte. 600 and U.S. 23, according to an OHP media release. The vehicle then struck a sign and traveled through a field.

Mr. Foreman’s vehicle fell into a ditch, becoming partially submerged in water. Trooper Matthews ran to the crash scene and assisted Mr. Foreman from the vehicle before before giving him medical attention until medical personnel arrived on scene.

Mr. Foreman was not wearing his seat belt and his face struck the windshield, the OHP release shows. 

Mr. Foreman is charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, failure to wear his safety belt, and failure to stop at a stop sign, according to an OHP release.
