Toledo police investigate city's 5th homicide

A central Toledo man fatally shot his friend during an apparent argument Thursday, according to Toledo police. 

Lavelle Allen, 22, is accused of shooting and killing Larry Pendleton, 31, about 1 a.m. at the Moody Manor apartment complex, police said. Both men live at the complex in different residences, records show. 

The motive for the shooting was unknown, said Sgt. Kevan Toney, the police department’s spokesman. 

Police found Mr. Pendleton at Mr. Allen’s apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to an affidavit filed in Toledo Municipal Court. Mr. Pendleton was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. 

Mr. Allen was still at the scene when police arrived and was arrested. He was charged with murder and booked into the Lucas County jail pending arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court. 

Pieces of broken wood and what appeared to be a broken mirror lay outside of the apartment door. No one answered later Thursday at either Mr. Allen’s or Mr. Pendleton’s residences. 

Mr. Pendleton was shot multiple times in the torso, said Dr. James Patrick, the Lucas County coroner. The death was ruled a homicide. 

This is Toledo’s fifth homicide so far in 2018, the same number as for all of January in 2017.
