Toledo police command officers reach tentative contract agreement with city
9/10/2018The Toledo Police Command Officers’ Association and city officials have reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement that includes base pay raises over three years.
The union, which represents about 131 police sergeants, lieutenants, and captains, has been negotiating a new agreement since its last contract expired at the end of 2017. The tentative agreement calls for a 1.5 percent raise in 2018, a 2.5 percent raise in 2019, and a 3 percent raise in 2020.
The pay raises mirror those of recently approved agreements with the Toledo Police Patrolman’s Association, Toledo Firefighters Local 92, and American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Local 2058.
The tentative agreement also aims to eliminate the wage spread for command officers that has been in place for more than 25 years. The spread between a patrol officer and a sergeant was 25 percent, the spread between sergeant and lieutenant was 15 percent, and it was 13 percent between a lieutenant and a captain.
Toledo City Council likely will meet in executive session on Tuesday after its regularly scheduled 4 p.m. meeting to discuss the terms.
