Toledo police: Man admits he was paid to start fire

Charged with two counts of arson

A Toledo man is facing arson charges for a 2017 fire that he told police he was hired to set.

Ramsey Cluckey, 42, was charged with two aggravated arson counts: One for being hired to start a fire, and another for causing substantial risk of serious harm, according to Toledo Municipal Court records. He was arrested Monday night and appeared for arraignment Tuesday morning in Toledo Municipal Court.

He told police that he was hired to set a fire at 747 Euclid Ave. in March, 2017, court records show.

According to Toledo Fire & Rescue Department records, firefighters responded to a fire at that address at about 11:20 p.m. March 30, 2017. Pvt. Sterling Rahe, spokesman for the fire department, said the structure was a two-story duplex, and the damage was initially estimated at $15,000. No one was injured, and no one was living there at the time of the fire.

Bond was set at $100,000, according to court records. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Sept. 18.
