CLEVELAND — Marcy Kaptur and Dennis Kucinich, Democrats, filed petitions Wednesday afternoon to face each other in a 2012 primary race for the 9th Congressional District.

Mr. Kucinich, of Cleveland, and Miss Kaptur each filed at the Cuyahoga Board of Elections in Cleveland.

The congressional filing deadline was extended this month following the revision of a new congressional map. The revised 9th District runs along the Lake Erie shore between Toledo and Cleveland.

The new map moved many of Miss Kaptur’s prior constituents back into the 9th and is generally considered friendlier to Miss Kaptur.

Congressional candidates have until Friday to file their petitions to run in the March 6 primary. The primary date and filing deadline was changed earlier this month after the congressional map was revised.
