This sight would definitely cause any driver to do a double-take.

On May 9, 1968, there was a sewer cave-in that caused the partial closing of Monroe Street in Toledo. So, who ‘ya gonna call? Then, it was a group in scuba diving gear, including M.J. (Duke) DuShane of Lambertville, Mich.

Mr. DuShane caused more than one head to turn as he was poised to go underground at the corner of Monroe Street and Oatis Avenue. He was one of the skin divers who went under the road to divert a sewer flow so that repairs could proceed on the section of sewer line affected by the cave-in.

Blade photographer Don Flory captured Mr. DuShane as he was preparing to make the plunge.
