Bedford robotics team takes state title

Bedford Express from Temperance was best of 102 Michigan teams

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Bedford High School's robotics team, the Bedford Express, was awarded the state title at the weekend's robotics district championship in Grand Rapids.

The competition involved 102 teams.

The Bedford Express team, which has been in existence for 13 years, won a bid to the world championship that will be held in Saint Louis April 22-25.

There were 204 qualifying matches that these teams played, with 12 matches for each team from Thursday through Saturday.

The group from Temperance was the top-seeded team with a qualifying average of 187.8 points per match

The Bedford Express robotics team was ranked among the best in state and had qualified for state competition even before district competition last month.

Bedford's teams were state competition finalists in 2011 and world semifinalists the same year.
