Federal officials will test the Emergency Alert System with a mass phone text on Wednesday.
Cell phones compatible with the wireless emergency alert will receive a test message at 2:18 p.m. A second audio test follows about two minutes later for participants including radio and television broadcasters.
Previous emergency tests were conducted in 2011, 2016, and 2017. They assess infrastructure readiness for national messages.
