Offerings: ‘Heaven on Earth’ tickets now on sale at Cornerstone Church

Cornerstone conference

Cornerstone Church is gearing up for its annual “Heaven on Earth” conference Oct. 2-6. Tickets are on sale now for a worship night with CeCe Winans, a Grammy Award-winning Gospel artist, that will cap the conference on Oct. 6.

Neither tickets nor registration is required for other conference sessions throughout the week, which will feature four guest speakers. Sessions will primarily take place at Cornerstone Church’s Maumee campus, 1520 Reynolds Rd.

150 years in Ottawa Lake

St. Michael Lutheran Church, in Ottawa Lake, Mich., is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The congregation will celebrate on Saturday with a community picnic, the second of four anniversary events scheduled through September.

The picnic runs noon to 5 p.m. at the church, 5790 W. Temperance Rd. It is free to attend. It will include free games and entertainment, including the locally known band Twin Pfunk. Food vendors, as well as homemade ice cream, will also be available.

Later anniversary events include a free music festival on Sept. 10 and a formal banquet on Sept. 24. For more information, contact the church at 734-856-2944.

Seven families established St. Michael in 1867, worshiping in area homes until they built a church on the current property in 1888. The congregation rebuilt in the same location after a fire in 1937 and, in 1958, constructed the since-expanded sanctuary they continue to use today. The Rev. Mark Gibbs currently serves as pastor to about 150 families.

‘Beer and Hymns’

“Beer and Hymns,” an approximately hour-long sing-a-long featuring traditional hymns, returns to the Black Cloister Brewing Co. at 7 p.m. Sunday. It is sponsored by the Maumee Valley Presbytery, which has been organizing periodic sing-a-longs since “Beer and Hymns” launched last fall.

There is no coverage charge to attend. Black Cloister Brewing Co. is at 619 Monroe St.

Church welcomes rector

The Rev. Bridget E. Coffey will serve as the next rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 2770 W. Central Ave. The church announced this week that she will serve as the seventh rector in the 127-year history of the Toledo parish.

“St. Andrew’s vibrant story of faith and history in Toledo drew me in and ultimately made accepting their call easy,” the Rev. Coffey said in a statement. “I look forward to serving alongside the people of St. Andrew’s as we continue to follow Jesus and share the love of God for all people with our neighbors.”

The Rev. Coffey comes to St. Andrew’s from Winchester, Va., where she had been serving as an assistant rector and had been instrumental in Christian formation programs. She is an alumna of the General Theological Seminary in New York and was ordained in 2009.

Her first Sunday at St. Andrew’s will be Sept. 10, when she will preach at the 8 and 10 a.m. services. All are welcome to attend.
