To the editor: Hospitals must offer treatment

“Both logic and law say that a woman, with the counsel of her doctor, has the right to make her own health care decisions.”

Bishop Daniel E. Thomas’ paean to logic in his March 3 essay, “Logic and life,” is both passionate and convincing, except for one simple fact: Hospitals, even religiously affiliated ones, are already committed to provide life-sustaining care to all who enter their facilities.

What is illogical is for the GOP-controlled Ohio legislature to institute a poorly-devised law that mandates arbitrary “transfer agreements” in order to restrict the practice of medicine.

Both logic and law say that a woman, with the counsel of her doctor, has the right to make her own health care decisions. Both logic and law also rightfully say that all hospitals must provide care to all. If the legislature or voters determine that it is in the best interest of citizens to close women’s health care clinics, then let them find a more honest way of doing it.

Going off the rails

The Blade’s editorial board believes that President Donald Trump is leading the charge in gun control reform, per their March 4 editorial, “Something’s happening here.”

The allusion to the Stephen Stills song was a clever ploy on the part of the writer. For what it’s worth, what is actually going on inside the White House is more akin to Ozzy Osborne’s anthem “Crazy Train,” for this administration is indeed “going off the rails.” Hopefully Mr. Trump won’t take the entire country with him.
