To the editor: Toledo VA is a model for others

5/17/2018

With the Department of Veterans Affairs receiving such negative press, I can confidently say that the local office is doing an exceptional job for veterans.

In addition to the high quality healthcare provided at the local site, all staff members offer superior, friendly care, and support to veterans and their families.

Pharmacy, psychiatric, nursing, social work, and primary care services are provided, as well as home medical equipment; I was also able to secure Aid in Attendance benefits for my 85-year-old father, which provides payments for in-home, and respite care.

So the next time one wants to complain about the VA, they should visit the Toledo facility; it should serve as the model for the rest of the country.

Proper helmet safety

The article about the centenarian Fred Krumm was interesting and heart warming (May 13, “Centenarian puts his mettle to the pedals”). However, the picture of how he wears his biking helmet sent chills down my spine.

If he should fall from his bike and hit his head, the forehead is the area most likely to be injured. The helmet should be worn more forward so the forehead is covered.

I hope he will wear it that way as everyone should.
