It’s a toss up whether Pam Meyer or her dog is the happiest about their relationship. Pam couldn’t be more pleased than she is with her selection at the Toledo Humane Society. And River, the name she chose, is obviously appreciative of Pam’s love and attention.

I was delighted when a friend reached deep into a Sautter's grocery bag and pulled out a tube of Yoder's cornmeal mush, and shouted, surprise! I was even more ecstatic with another food gift, a custard pie, my all-time favorite, but made with a different crust. This one was moistened with 7-UP instead of water. It was flaky, had a gentle tang, and browned beautifully. Both the mush and the custard are examples of American heirloom foods that our ancestors made with ingredients they had on hand: milk, eggs, cornmeal, and butter.
