A Sept. 6 letter to the editor, “Left makes decision easy in Nov.” claimed leftists support illegal immigration, opening prisons, defunding everything. I don’t know where he obtained this information but it is inflammatory and not accurate for the majority of Democrats (left). One can always find some extremist on either side but it does not represent the party as a whole. In regards to immigration though, the Biden administration had a bipartisan agreement to severely curtail immigration until Trump told the Republicans to not approve the agreement.

Here’s a good political conversation starter; who is more irresponsible, President Trump for promising a $5,000 dividend for every adult citizen if Republicans keep majorities in both the House and the Senate, or Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno who plans to sponsor enabling legislation?

For those of us alive on Sept. 11, 2001 — fully one-third of people in the United States today were not, and millions more were too young for memories — it’s hard to believe that it has been 25 years since that horrific day. And yet it isn’t difficult at all, given the transformational changes dating from that time that remain a fact of everyday life, not least the airport security lines and the ever-advancing technology in use there.

In 2019, I graduated from Sylvania Schools thinking I had done what every other high school graduate across the country had done before: walked across the stage, shook a hand, and accepted a diploma. It was not until later when I started my first semester of college and had my first meeting with my adviser that I realized all that I took for granted from Sylvania Schools. In that first meeting, the adviser was bewildered at the fact that I came in with 65 credits, elevating me to junior standing. This meant that I could graduate with a bachelor’s degree in two years instead of four years. Despite this, I wanted to take some time to enjoy the college experience, so I settled for three years, graduating with a double major and a minor in that time.

We appreciate your Sept. 2 editorial, “Lake Erie has looming issue,” recognizing H2Ohio and progress being made to improve Ohio’s water quality. The story, however, presents an incomplete picture of H2Ohio and leaves out a major part of the progress: the thousands of farm families, and partnerships, who have stepped up to be a part of the solution.

Current political commentary points to transgender athletes as a threat to safety and fairness in girls’ and women’s sports. Yet, in many ways, this belief overlooks the realities facing most participants. According to the U.S. Center for SafeSport, the national organization that investigates allegations of sexual misconduct in sport, about one-third of athletes surveyed believed emotional, physical, or sexual misconduct was a problem in their sport. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization reported that, worldwide, one in five elite female athletes experienced sexual misconduct as a child in a sport setting. Recent studies reveal that 60 to 80 percent of female athletes experience psychological abuse in sport. Of those, over half report that a coach was the perpetrator. Studies also show about one in five female athletes experience body shaming by coaches. As high as 35 percent of female athletes have eating disorders while up to 70 percent of them engage in unhealthy eating patterns. And, over 40 percent of female athletes competing in the NCAA report feeling overwhelmed while 35 percent report feeling mentally exhausted.

The start of high school and college football is here. High school football might be the last hope for the great game of football. It is integrity-based and team-oriented and teaches values. It’s a chance to watch young people compete and show the results of hard work and dedication.
