Jackets escape from Northview in double OT
Northview made great strides from its Northern Lakes League opener at Perrysburg 38 days ago, and the Wildcats pushed the visiting Yellow Jackets to the limit Friday night.
But, at the end, the unbeaten Jackets had just a little more in the tank and on the scoreboard in a 53-49, double-overtime girls basketball victory.
“I didn’t know about double overtime, but I knew we were going to get a great game from them,” Perrysburg coach Todd Sims said. “We handled them pretty well the first time we played them, but I expected a dog fight [this time], which is what we got.” Read more...
Supporting cast helps Anthony Wayne win
It was billed as a battle between two imposing post players with Big Ten futures but the tussle between Northern Lakes League boys basketball preseason favorites Anthony Wayne and Bowling Green came down to the supporting cast.
The Generals got off to a quick start with a 10-0 lead, then held off the Bobcats 58-52 Friday at AW's packed gym.
Anthony Wayne, picked to win the league, remained undefeated in the NLL (4-0) and improved to 7-1 overall.
Anthony Wayne senior Mark Donnal, who will play next season at the University of Michigan, finished with 14 points. The 6-foot-10 forward also grabbed 16 rebounds. Read more...
Otsego Knights find stride against Lake
TONTOGANY — At the outset, the Northern Buckeye Conference clash between Lake and Otsego seemed to be shaping up into a one-sided contest with the Flyers ruling play.
Lake led Otsego by as much as a dozen points halfway through the second quarter before the first of several momentum swings turned it into a close contest.
A.C. Limes sparked a strong second-half effort by the Knights, scoring 14 of his game-high 21 points after halftime to lead Otsego to a 65-57 victory over Lake.
"We just knew we had to play basketball the way we always play," said Limes, a 6-foot-4 senior post. "We had to get the ball inside and score. If we could get the ball inside that would open things up on the outside." Read more...
