CANTON — A northeast Ohio city will soon see a 23-foot sculpture to mark the founding of the National Football League.

Canton is home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Repository in Canton reports the city’s downtown could receive the piece entitled “Birth of the NFL” as early as October. The sculpture is made from steel, stainless steel and glass.

Denver-based artist Michael Clapper told the newspaper his design will include a transparent spheroid from which the letters N, F and L will be suspended. He says the sculpture will look like a football to those who are football fans.

The piece is part of the 11-sculpture collection that Canton officials plan to situate around the city to celebrate the greatest moments in professional football history.
