TEMPERANCE — The Bedford volleyball team trailed 2-1 to Saline, but rallied for a 3-2 victory in a Michigan Class A district semifinal match.
The Mules edged Saline 25-18, 21-25, 24-26, 25-19, 15-7. Bedford moves on to the district final at 7 p.m. on Saturday to face Monroe. The Trojans topped Ypsilanti Community High School 3-0 in the other semifinal.
MIAMI — Dwyane Wade scored 29 points, 11 in the fourth quarter, and the Miami Heat held off the Los Angeles Clippers 102-97 on Thursday night.
LeBron James added 18 points for the Heat (4-2), who won their third straight and extended their club record by scoring at least 100 points in a sixth consecutive game to start the season. Chris Bosh, playing for the first time since his wife delivered a baby earlier this week, finished with 12 points for Miami.

Two Falcons were named WCHA players of the week last week as Dan DeSalvo was named offensive player of the week while Ralfs Freibergs was named defensive player of the week.
DeSalvo, a junior, collected points in all three BG games last week, scoring a goal while adding three assists. His four points were tops among WCHA players last week.
And Freibergs helped the Falcons kill off 14-of-15 opponent power-play opportunities last week while adding three assists.
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Traveling halfway around the world didn't appear to hurt Brian Gay's golf game.
Gay returned from two weeks in Asia and made eight birdies for a 7-under 63 in the McGladrey Classic. That gave him a share of the lead with Briny Baird among the early starters at Sea Island. Baird missed nearly the entire year while recovering from surgery on both shoulders.

ANN ARBOR — Michigan center Mitch McGary will miss today's season opener against UMass-Lowell because of a lingering back problem.
McGary averaged 7.5 points per game last season as a freshman, but in the NCAA tournament he averaged 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds, helping the Wolverines reach the national championship game, which they lost to Louisville.
MUNCIE, Ind. — The Toledo volleyball team earned a come from behind win over Ball State and moved into a first-place tie with the Cardinals in the MAC West division as a result.
The Rockets, behind senior Lauren Rafdal's 21 kills, outlasted Ball State 22-25, 21-25, 28-26, 25-23, 15-12. Toledo (17-10, 10-3 MAC) holds a season-high six match win streak.
