DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers have agreed to a non-guaranteed, $1.9 million one-year contract with left-handed pitcher Phil Coke.

The Tigers announced today they avoided arbitration with Coke by agreeing to terms on a deal.

If Coke makes the team and pitches in 60 games, he will earn a $50,000 bonus. He can get $50,000 bonuses for appearing in 65 and 70 games.

He was 0-5 with a 5.40 ERA in 49 games for the Tigers, who sent him to Triple-A Toledo in late August after one of his many poor outings. The Tigers brought him back up in September and put him on the roster in the AL championship series against Boston.

Coke is 17-25 with a 4.20 ERA over four seasons in Detroit and two with the New York Yankees.
