Rocket women fall to Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The University of Toledo women’s basketball team dropped its second straight and third game in its last four with a 90-80 loss Monday to Evansville.

The Rockets (5-6) were led by a trio of scorers finishing with 19 points each — Brianna Jones, Inma Zanoguera, and Ana Capotosto. Andola Dortch added 17.

Jones pulled down 13 rebounds and Zanoguera had 10 as UT had a 47-34 edge on the boards — including 20 offensive rebounds.

The Purple Aces (5-6) were led by Taylor Kat with 23 points. She made all 11 of her free throws while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds.

Khristian Hart added 19 points, while Katie Ellerson had 16, and Sara Dickey chipped in 15. Evansville led by as many as 22 in the second half before Toledo chipped into the lead late.

MAC HONORS: Toledo’s Rian Pearson was named MAC West Division men’s basketball player of the week. He scored 22 points during an 85-66 win against Coppin State.

Bowling Green’s Erica Donovan was MAC East women’s player of the week. She scored a career-high 22 points and had 10 rebounds in an 81-66 win against Saint Francis (Pa).
