3 observations from Bowling Green's loss to Maryland

    • It was a story of two halves as Bowling Green welcomed Big Ten foe Maryland to Doyt Perry Stadium on Saturday. BGSU moved the ball enough to take a 14-10 lead into halftime, but Maryland ran all over the Falcons in the second half on the way to a 45-14 win. Here are three takeaways from the game:

    ■ The Falcons’ biggest area of concern was plainly obvious. Although BG won’t face much of Maryland’s style of power running in MAC play, the Falcons need to find answers with their run defense. BG was bludgeoned up front, and losing the line of scrimmage on a regular basis can make for a long year.

    ■ Quintin Morris is going to be a name to know. The sophomore receiver caught a 29-yard touchdown and seems to be developing a rapport with quarterback Jarret Doege. Morris will be an important weapon for BG’s passing game.

    ■ We’ll know more about the Falcons after the third game of the season. BG wore down against superior rosters in the first two games, but Eastern Kentucky is (or at least should be) the opposite. The Falcons will have a great chance to break their home losing streak Saturday.
