BOWLING GREEN – Bowling Green State University freshman goaltender Eric Dop was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association newcomer of the week for the second week in a row, the league announced Monday.

Dop backstopped the Falcons to a 2-1 victory over then-No. 20 Michigan Tech on the road Friday, stopping all but one of the 22 shots he faced against the defending WCHA tournament champions. His effort included nine saves in the third period to maintain BG’s one-goal margin.

Last week, Dop received the same honor from the WCHA after leading the Falcons to another 2-1 victory, this over Alaska on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Slater Family Ice Arena. In that contest the rookie netminder made 25 saves, including 14 in the third period.

For the season Dop, a native of Lewis Center, Ohio, is 3-1-0 and leads the WCHA with a 1.79 goals-against average, while also ranking atop the league in save percentage with a 93.6 percent mark.

The Falcons return to the Slater Family Ice Arena for a two-game series against Lake Superior State this weekend. Friday’s game starts at 7:37 p.m., while Saturday’s contest will face off at 7:07 p.m.
