Springfield's Wiggins earns MAC honor

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University junior Demajeo Wiggins was named Mid-American Conference East Division men’s basketball player of the week, the league announced Monday.

A Springfield High School graduate, Wiggins averaged a double-double last week in leading the Falcons to home victories against Ohio on Tuesday and Kent State on Saturday.

Wiggins finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the victory against the Bobcats, then registered 13 points and nine rebounds in the come-from-behind win aganst the Golden Flashes. For the week, he averaged 15.5 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Wiggins is averaging 15.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in MAC contests, and is averaging 13.7 points (23rd in the MAC) and 9.1 boards (second in MAC) per game overall. Wiggins also stands fifth-best in the conference in field-goal percentage at 56.4 percent.

Bowling Green returns to the court at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ball State.
