BG Football February signees for 2018

BOWLING GREEN – The Bowling Green State University football team has signed four players to national letters of intent on Feb. 7, the “second” signing period this year.

With the 18 players Bowling Green signed in December, the addition of Belton and the four players who signed today, and the scholarship given to quarterback Grant Loy, the Falcons are at their limit of 25 scholarships.

Here is a look at the four players who signed with Bowling Green on Wednesday.

■ Karl Brooks is a defensive end who earned All-Michigan second-team honors in Division 4 at Lansing Sexton High School. He was named to the Lansing State Journal’s Dream Team after making more than 100 tackles, including 12 sacks, for the Big Reds.

Brooks also had five fumbles forced and three fumbles recovered as well as three passes broken up as a combination rush end-linebacker. He helped lead Sexton to an 8-4 record and the regional championships in Division 4. 

■ Ra’veion Hargrove is a three-year starter at Trotwood-Madison High School in suburban Dayton, where he ran for 7,163 yards and 93 touchdowns in his career. He led the Rams to the Division III state title this season, running for 2,264 yards and 30 TDs in 15 games. He was named Division III offensive player of the year and Gatorade Ohio player of the year.

Hargrove ran for 3,039 yards and 39 touchdowns as a sophomore and 1,562 yards and 21 more scores as a junior. He ran more than 100 yards in 31 of the 46 games in his high school career, and had more than 200 yards in 16 different games. Hargrove’s biggest single-game performances came when he ran for 385 yards in one game and 361 yards — and six touchdowns — in another.

■ Presley Motes is a tight end who played last season at Eastern Arizona Community College. He did not catch any passes for the Gila Monsters but ran the ball twice for minus-2 yards while punting once for 30 yards.

Motes was a quarterback at Thatcher High School in Thatcher, Ariz., throwing for 2,064 yards and 24 touchdowns as a senior in 2012. He also had 43 tackles on defense while serving as his team’s punter and kicker. After taking a Mormon mission, he played quarterback at Pima Community College, where he completed 6-of-16 passes for 198 yards and two TDs.

Motes comes from an athletic family: his grandfather was a pitcher in the Chicago Cubs minor-league system, while his father played football at Northern Arizona and his mother played volleyball at BYU-Hawaii. His sisters played volleyball at Air Force and at Cal State-Bakersfield. 

■ Cameron Stage is an offensive lineman from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The 6-4, 295-pound tackle was expected to start for the Chiefs, who posted an 11-2 record and advanced to the 5A Region 4 finals, but instead suffered a season-ending injury before the season began.

Prior to that Stage spent three years as a starter on the offensive line at Coral Springs High School.
