Boys basketball: Syroka, Whitmer too much for Start

WHITMER 58, START 41

Trey Syroka had eight second-quarter points and 13 of his 15 points in the first half as the host Panthers sailed to a nonleague boys basketball victory against the Bulldogs on Saturday night.

Eddie Colbert added 13 points for Whitmer (1-0), which used a 32-13 run during the middle two quarters to put the game away.

Devin Williams finished with 15 points for Start (1-1).

NORTHVIEW 55, SCOTT 42

The Wildcats (2-0) jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and closed the game out on a 16-5 run.

Colton Snow led Northview with 13 points, while Alek West scored 12 points.

Anthony Morris led the Bulldogs with a game-high 16 points. Brandon Hendricks chipped in 13 points.

ANTHONY WAYNE 59, FREMONT ROSS 51

Andrew Murphy scored 19 points and Josh Boyer 15 as the Generals (1-1) won at home.

Keyon Sewell led the Little Giants (0-1) with 13 points. Bryce Root added 12.

WAUSEON 60, ARCHBOLD 54

WAUSEON — Brooks Gype scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter as Wauseon (1-0) pulled away at home. Austin Rotroff added 20 points and Levi Seiler 10. Bryce Williams led the Blue Streaks (0-1) with 18 points. Rigo Ramos added 14.

DEFIANCE 44, NAPOLEON 34

NAPOLEON — Will Lammers scored 17 points and Easton Gerken added 15 as Defiance (1-0) won on the road. Jarrett Gerdeman led Napoleon (0-2) with 13 points.

WOODMORE 65, OAK HARBOR 42

ELMORE — Mitchell Miller got Woodmore’s season off to a roaring start with four 3-point field goals and 30 points.

The Wildcats (1-0) led by 10 points at halftime and outscored Oak Harbor (1-1) 21-7 in the third quarter.

Aric McAtee had 19 points for the Rockets, and Alex Gezo added 11 points.

TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 56, LAKE 51

Delano Smith shot four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points as the Eagles prevailed. Landon McGill had 12 points for Toledo Christian, and Owen Gast added 11 points.

Ahmad Smith led Lake with 18 points, and Ben Stowers had 10.

CARDINAL STRITCH 77, FOSTORIA 31

Thirteen Cardinals (1-0) — led by Joey Holifield, who had 16 points — scored in a home win. Jordan Burton finished with 13 points and Little Anderson 11.

Trae Anderson led Fostoria (0-1) with eight points.

EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN 42, HILLTOP 41

WEST UNITY — Gary Black hit a three-pointer with 13 seconds left  as the Warriors won their opener.

Caden Williams led with 13 points and Jailon Walker added 10.

For the Cadets (1-1), Kohl Collins had 14 and Steven Riley 13.

NORTH BALTIMORE 54, ELMWOOD 43

NORTH BALTIMORE — Adam Flores scored 15 points and Tyler Durfey 11 as the Tigers (1-0) won at home. Zach Weiss led the Royals (0-1) with 20 points. Matthew Cline added 15.

LEIPSIC 44, HOLGATE 39

LEIPSIC — Reese Mangas scored 11 points as Leipsic (1-1) won at home. Cody Sonnenberg finished with nine ponts for Holgate (0-2).

PETTISVILLE 34, TINORA 25

PETTISVILLE — Detric Yoder scored seven of his 10 points in the first quarter, sparking the host Blackbirds (2-0), who led 15-2 after one quarter.

Ryan Mohr led Tinora (0-2) with 12 points.
