Spotlight Athlete: Mitchell Miller, Woodmore

Woodmore’s Mitchell Miller, a 6-foot-1 senior guard, helped the Wildcats’ boys basketball team to its first 3-0 start since 1998 by opening the season with 30 points in a 65-42 win against Oak Harbor, 28 points in a 55-50 win at Port Clinton, and 17 points in a 63-37 victory at Gibsonburg.

In the past three games, Miller had 17 points in a 60-57 Northern Buckeye Conference loss to Otsego, 21 in a 61-56 win against Hopewell-Loudon, and 17 in a 67-50 NBC win against Elmwood as the Wildcats have started 5-1.

On the season, Miller is averaged 21.7 points per game and has 754 career points. He is on pace to reaching the 1,000-point milestone later this season. Last season, he averaged 15.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists and was named first-team All-NBC.

Miller, also a four-year member of the Woodmore varsity golf team, earned first-team All-NBC honors the past two seasons. In the classroom, he carries a 3.345 grade-point average.

“Mitchell is a complete, all-around offensive player,” Woodmore coach Aaron Clouse said. “He handles the ball very well, and can play the point or off the ball. He possesses the ability to score in different ways. He has a quick first step and finishes well in the paint and finishes through contact.

“He shoots well off the dribble, and is a great spot-up shooter. He does a good job of creating for teammates when the defense sends multiple defenders at him. He is a much improved defensive player with good defensive instincts.”
