Girls basketball: Staczek helps Lake soar over Port Clinton

LAKE 59, PORT CLINTON 35

PORT CLINTON — Lake was powered by a 30-point scoring night from Mya Staczek, who knocked down five three-point shots to account for half of her production in her team’s 59-35 girls basketball victory Wednesday night. Lake built an insurmountable 47-24 lead after three quarters.

The host Redskins were led by Delayna Laurel’s 16 points.

SANDUSKY 39, BOWSHER 36

Visiting Sandusky was led by Da’shanti Miller’s nine-point effort. The winners trailed 23-21 heading into the fourth quarter before outsocring the Rebels 18-13.

Keke Galloway scored eight points to lead Bowsher, which slipped to 5-3.

WHITMER 64, NICEVILLE, FLA. 33

ORLANDO — The Panthers (6-2) opened the Rock Holiday Classic with a convincing triumph over Florida-based Niceville (10-4). Led by Maddie Brown’s 17 points, the Panthers put everyone in the scoring column except one player. Jenna Thomas added 13 for the winners, while Abby Hickey netted 10.

Not one Niceville player reached double-digit scoring.

BEDFORD 39, WESTLAND (Mich.) JOHN GLENN 30

SOUTHGATE — At the Southgate Anderson tournament, Lynsey Spotts led the way with 12 points as the Mules defeated John Glenn in the opener.

Bedford improved to 4-2 overall.

Taylor Johnson had 10 points for Westland John Glenn (2-4).
