The junior topped the 1,000-point mark in his career Dec. 7 against Old Fort and now has 1,289 career points.

Metzger is a three-year starter, having played on the varsity since the eighth grade for Monclova Christian (13-4).

He has scored 339 points this season while making 115 of 279 shots. He has knocked down 74 of 159 from two-point range, 41 of 120 from 3-point range, and 63 of 98 from the free-throw line. He has 82 rebounds, including 60 defensive boards. Metzger also averages 5.1 steals per game.

Metzger holds the school record for the most 3-point shots in a game when he hit 11 of 14 from the arc Dec. 15 against Findlay Heritage Christian. He also set the school record for most points in a game with 46, also on Dec 15. He also has the most assists in a game (13). He is building on his school-record 171 career 3-point baskets.

Monclova Christian coach Chad Walters said Metzger's strengths on the court are his vision and his ability to adapt to situations. He said Metzger is viewed as a leader.

“He will do what it takes defensively to get turnovers and offensively to distribute the ball to help the team be as effective as possible,” Walters said.

Metzger, who is undecided where he will attend college, holds a grade-point average of 3.31. Metzger also is part of the school's varsity soccer team and is a three-year starter.

“Luke has always put his faith in Jesus Christ first when it comes to basketball,” Walters said. “His work ethic and play are always expressed in a way to glorify the Lord even in all of the accolades and goals he has achieved.”
