COLUMBUS — Dallas Gant is officially a Buckeye.

The former St. John's Jesuit star was already a member of the Ohio State football team.

But on Wednesday, the linebacker had his black stripe removed, a rite of passage for all OSU true freshmen on the football team. To have one’s stripe removed shows the player has earned the respect of the team and truly belongs.

Gant is the second freshman to shed his black stripe in his class, joining defensive tackle Tommy Togiai. Gant, who enrolled early at OSU and took part in spring practice, was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and selected to compete in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Gant was the All-Blade player of the year last year with the Titans when he had 94 tackles and seven sacks on defense and added seven touchdown catches on offense.
