  • COLUMBUS — Nick Bosa will not return until November at the earliest.

That’s what the Ohio State All-America defensive end’s father, John, told the Columbus Dispatch on Monday.

Nick Bosa was injured in the third quarter of OSU’s win Sept. 15 against TCU. Last week, he had surgery on a core muscle injury, and his father said Nick will be out more than a month.

“Here’s the reality of what’s going on: Nick won’t be evaluated by the surgeon until November,” John told the Dispatch. “The bad news is, he had surgery. The good news is, it’s 100 percent fixable. And that is fantastic for Nick, because once he recovers he will be 100 percent.”

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was asked about Nick’s status Monday and about how his NFL future impacts a possible return to the playing field. Meyer said Nick told him he wants to play and the Buckeyes think he’ll be back by season’s end.

“He’d love to [play again this year],” Bosa’s mother, Cheryl, told ESPN. “It’s a day at a time right now. He’s a beast. I go to [physical therapy] with him every day and he’s doing what he’s supposed to do.”

Nick is considered to be one of the leading candidates to be taken No. 1 overall in the 2019 NFL draft. In three games this season, he has four sacks, six tackles for loss, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and a touchdown.
