FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Shawn Szydlowski scored the only goal of the shootout Friday as the Fort Wayne Komets beat the Toledo Walleye 3-2 at Memorial Coliseum.

The Komets (9-6-2) got goals from Szydlowski and Ryan Culkin in the third period, as Fort Wayne rallied from a 2-0 deficit.

The Walleye (13-4-3) got first-period goals from Kyle Bonis and Erik Bradford.

Michael Houser had 18 saves for the Komets, while Matej Machovsky finished with 35 saves for Toledo.

The Walleye host Indy at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at the Huntington Center.

Before the game, the Toledo Police and Fire departments will square off in the sixth annual Battle of the Badges game at 3:30 p.m. at the downtown arena. There will be a jersey raffle during the Walleye game to benefit injured Toledo police officer Jason Picking.

Fans also are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to the game to donate to charity as part of the annual Teddy Bear Toss that will take place. When the Walleye score their first goal, fans throw the stuffed animals onto the ice.
