WHEELING, W.Va. — Mike Borkowski scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner, and Ryan Obuchowski scored three points as the Toledo Walleye extended their winning streak to three games as they beat the Wheeling Nailers 5-4 at WesBanco Arena on Saturday.
Obuchowski had a goal and two assists, and Erik Bradford also had a goal and an assist for the Walleye (20-8-2). Shane Berschbach also had a goal for Toledo.
Troy Josephs, Hunter Fejes, and Cam Brown all had a goal and an assist for the Nailers (16-13-2). Riley Bourbonnais had the other goal for Wheeling, which now has lost two straight games.
Pat Nagle stopped 37 shots for Toledo, as he is now 16-2-2 on the season. Will King (4-3-1) had 19 saves for Wheeling .
The Walleye raced to a 2-0 lead on goals by Obuchowski and Borkowski in the first period. Bradford got a goal just 16 seconds into the second period, but the Nailers then came back with three consecutive goals to tie it at 3.
Josephs and Fejes scored at the 2:31 and 3:27 marks, respectively, to pull Wheeling close, then Bourbonnais tied it at 16:58 of the second. Berschbach and Borkowski scored in the final minute of the period for a 5-3 Toledo lead.
Brown then scored with 7:24 remaining in regulation, but the Nailers couldn’t get the tying goal.
The Walleye will visit Fort Wayne at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
