Walleye see winning streak broken in 3-1 loss at Brampton

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Walleye saw their eight-game winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss to the Brampton Beast on Tuesday night.

Toledo (33-13-4) went 0 of 5 on the power play and lost for the first time since Jan. 24.

Forward Tyler Barnes scored early in the second period for Toledo. Rookie goalie Matej Machovsky finished with 23 saves on 25 shots.

The Walleye fell behind 2-0 after one period. David Vallorani opened the scoring midway through the first period for the Beast. Cody Donaghey then scored with just five seconds left in the opening stanza to put Brampton up by two goals.

Barnes then potted his 11th goal of the season to make it 2-1 just 5:51 into the second period. Mike Embach assisted on the goal.

Walleye coach Dan Watson then pulled Machovsky for the extra attacker in the waning moments of the third period. However, Brampton's Brandon MacLean tallied an empty net goal with 17 seconds left to put it away.

Brampton goalie Chris Driedger finished with 23 saves on 24 shots.

The Beast outshot Toledo 26-24.

The Walleye are 4-1-0 this year against the Beast. Brampton (18-22-8) snapped a nine-game losing streak.

Toledo wrapped up a busy stretch of four games in five days. The Walleye had won three in a row on the road.

The Walleye play at Kalamazoo on Saturday and then at Quad City on Sunday. Toledo returns to the Huntington Center on Feb. 23 against Atlanta.
