Toledo vs. Eastern Michigan: Everything you need to know

    • So far this year, the Toledo football team hasn’t managed to string together multiple wins in a row.

    But Toledo has won 11 straight games in the series with the Eastern Michigan Eagles, who are entering the game on a four-game losing streak. So, the Rockets won’t get a better chance than this after beating Bowling Green last week.

    With plenty of things yet to figure out — the health of Mitch Guadagni and what’s going on with the defense primary among them — this could be a good week to get some answers.

    ROCKETING THE EAGLES: Toledo’s recent 11-game winning streak over Eastern Michigan isn’t anything new. In 41 previous meetings between the schools, Toledo has won 31 games. And recent results haven’t even been too close — the Rockets are winning by an average of 26 points per game since Eastern last won in 2006.

    TALE OF TWO TEAMS: Even with starting quarterback Guadagni sidelined with a concussion in last week’s 52-36 win over BGSU, backup Eli Peters more than adequately held down the spot with 184 passing yards and three scores. On the season, the Rockets average 253 passing yards and three TDs per game.

    However, Toledo is getting gouged by its opponent’s passing games. Last week, BG quarterback Jarret Doege threw for 289 yards and three scores. The Rockets are allowing 462 total yards and 22 first downs per game.

    CLOSE BUT ...: The Eagles are stuck in a four-game losing streak, but those four losses have been by a total of 16 points. In three of those games, EMU had a lead in the second half or overtime.

    One of EMU’s two wins is a 20-19 win over Purdue in Week 2. Chad Ryland hit a 24-yard field goal as time expired for the victory.

    GLASS IS FULL: Mike Glass III has seemingly inserted himself as EMU’s full-time starting quarterback. He rushed for 101 yards and threw for 155 with two total TDs in last week’s 3-point loss at Western Michigan. Glass has 221 rushing yards and four TDs to go along with 657 passing yards and six scores.

    Glass sat out last year as a redshirt after transferring from Southwestern College, where he was named the Southern California Football Association Offensive Player of the Year. He threw for 1,399 yards and 14 TDs as a sophomore, leading the Jaguars to a 9-2 record.
