Ceramics, paintings, metals to go on display downtown

Metals 2001 is to open with a party at 7 p.m. Friday in Space 237, a gallery at 237 North Michigan St., where it will run through April 6. On view will be jewelry and metalwork by faculty and students of Bowling Green State University, the University of Toledo, Detroit's Center for Creative Studies, Eastern Michigan University, and the University of Michigan.

Artists include Tom Madden, Saima Mussani, Hiroko Sato-Pijanowski, Thomas Muir, Ben Wearley, and Nicole Jacquard. Jacquard won a Niche Award from the Rosen Group at the Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Craft.

Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.


Watercolor paintings by Barbara Webb and ceramics from Duane Bastian, David Cayton, Joe Ann Cousino, Bing Davis, Danielle Fisher Snyder, Edith Franklin, Rex Fogt, Tom Marino, and Ann Tubbs will go on display Friday in 20 North Gallery, 20 North St. Clair St., where a reception is planned at 6 p.m. that day.

The joint exhibit will remain on display through April 4. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.


The American Gallery, 6600 Sylvania Ave., Sylvania, has opened an exhibit of original graphics by area artists including Janet Ballweg, Janet Dyer, Steve Hazard, Baker O'Brien, and Larry Welo. The show is to continue through March; Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.


Grumbacher's Gold Medal Watercolor Show continues at the Toledo Artists' Club Gallery through April 12. The winners are Alfred Hyter, best of show; Hugh McCulley, first place; Janet Burns, second place; Marti Werner, third place; and John Tuttle and Sintha Anderson, honorable mentions. The club is in Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr.


Three artists are displaying their works in the new spaces at ArtSpace/Lima, 65-67 Town Square, Lima, Ohio. John Wade III has abstractionist/post-modern themes on view in the Loft Gallery. Michael Campbell showcases memories of working the pipeline in Alaska in the Off the Hall Gallery. The Front Windows holds glimpses of the Black History of Lima by Georgia Newsome. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
