Orobs Gallery plans grand opening exhibit

The Orobs Fine Art Gallery, 1822 North Reynolds Rd., Suite 3, has scheduled a grand opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Artists to exhibit in the gallery through Nov. 9 include Orobs owner Odes Roberts, Sr., Brenda Abdul Kareem, Lisa Barroso, Aaron Bivins, Renee Brand, Anna Campbell, Elizabeth Eureste, Ashton Hollingsworth III, Michael McWhorter, and Oscar Valasquez. Northwest Ohio regional entries for the 2001 Governor's “Treasures for the Tree Ornament Contest” are due by 6 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Common Space Center for Creativity, 1700 North Reynolds Rd. Ornaments must be ready-to-hang original creations between three and five inches in any dimension, weighing no more than eight ounces. A regional first-place prize of $200 will be awarded. All artists whose work is selected for display will be invited to a private reception at the Governor's Residence in Columbus on Dec. 7.

To highlight the Toledo Museum of Art's Archive Exhibition, “Bricks and Mortar: An Institution Evolves,” Steven Shrake, project architect for SSOE Studios, will give a free lecture at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Museum's Little Theater. Shrake's address, “The Toledo Museum of Art: An Architectural Perspective,” will discuss how the museum developed from two rented rooms into a campus for the arts. Information: 419-255-8000.

The Paula Brown Gallery, 909 Jefferson Ave., will open an exhibition of watercolors and etchings by Jack Cowin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Roy G BIV Gallery, 997 N. High St., Columbus, will present the third annual ImageOhio statewide photography exhibition this month. The show, kicking off with a preview reception Friday, is scheduled to run Saturday through Oct. 27. ImageOhio 2001 will exhibit the work of 13 artists from across Ohio, including fine art photographers, video artists, and artists using photography in their work. Artspace/Lima, 65 West Town Square, Lima, Ohio, will present through Oct. 30 a retrospective exhibition of drawings, designs, and models by landscape architect James H. Bassett.
