Titanic exhibit coming to Detroit

12/11/2002

Artifacts from the Titanic and some of the 2,228 passengers and crew who were aboard the “unsinkable” ship when it went down in the North Atlantic in April, 1912, will be on display in the New Detroit Science Center Feb. 8 through Sept. 7, 2003.

“Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit” will cover more than 9,000 square feet, presenting a chronological journey that starts with the building of the ship, a massive project that took 1,500 workers more than three years to complete.

Visitors will be able to see re-creations of first and third-class rooms and a dining area and touch an “iceberg.”

The exhibit also features more than 250 artifacts that were recovered from the debris field surrounding the wreck.

The New Detroit Science Center is at 5020 John R St. Hours starting Feb. 8 will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $16.95 for adults, $13.95 for seniors over age 60, and $11.95 for children 2-12. The price includes general admission to the science center.

Advance tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster.
