SeaGate Gallery opens exhibit

The SeaGate Gallery, on the Plaza Level of the Owens-Illinois World Headquarters, Summit and Jackson streets, is featuring The Art World of Rudolph Schroeder through Dec. 1. The subjects of the original pen-and-ink drawings and reproductions by Schroeder range from butterflies to Dutch Botler ships. The display is presented by the Arts Council Lake Erie West, a regional nonprofit agency. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Information: 419-531-2046.

The offices of Gateway Defender, 1301 North Summit St., will present Mixed Media Paintings, a showing of the latest artwork of artists Stacy DelVerne and Lisa Grizaniuk from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday.

Holiday wreaths by Jan Hender, Jim Ladd, Carol Rice, and Roger Zielinski will be on display Friday and Saturday in the American Gallery, 6600 Sylvania Ave., Sylvania. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Information: 882-8949.

Several local and regional artisans have had handcrafted ornaments accepted for Gov. and Mrs. Bob Taft's 2003 Christmas tree. They include Mary Ellen Graham of Toledo, Corbet Blanton of Woodville, Jim Fitzenzeiter of Napoleon, Anita Lehman of Bluffton, Gary Rhiel of Elmore, Jaynne Smiley of Paulding, Gwen Smith and Jeff Smith of Whitehouse, John Sutton of Sylvania, Dianna Swartz of Upper Sandusky, Jane Weller of Continental, and Clyde Winters of Oak Harbor. Sandy Dobbelaere of Oakwood was the first-place prize winner of the ornament competition.

Spectrum Gallery, Friends of Fine Art in the Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr., has its 2003 Open Fall Show on view through Nov. 25. The juried show features 39 works from 26 local artists. Awards of Distinction were given to Donald Barnes, Paul Branc, Buzz Meyers, and Karen Studenka. Juror for the show was Patrick Dubreuil, a drawing teacher at the University of Toledo.

Hoen's, 1710 Perrysburg-Holland Rd, Holland, presents A Christmas Celebration of The Arts and Flowers from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The event features more than 30 booths of arts and crafts; bow-making demonstrations at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m.; wreath decorating classes from 11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m.; ornament decorating, face painting, and a holiday photo area. The Detroit Institute of Arts presents ARTSEEN featuring On The Edge: Contemporary Art from the DaimlerChrysler Collection, from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday. The display, which takes place in the DIA's new dining room, features artists who “shatter boundaries” through video, installation art, car images, and more. Dancing and socializing will take place in the DIA's North Court. The event features an open bar, DJ Powdrblu, and an after-party from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Congress Restaurant Lounge.
