Iraqi people theme of exhibition

The Northwest Ohio Peace Coalition is sponsoring a Toledo stopover of the traveling exhibition Faces of Iraq. More than 50 photographs taken by seven professional photographers feature Iraqi people living their daily lives. The goal of the exhibit is to educate Americans and humanize the people of Iraq.

The local stopover will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 in the lobby of the Owens-Illinois building. This exhibit will be displayed there through Oct. 18, then it will move to the art gallery on the fifth floor of the University of Toledo's Carlson Library, where it will be on view Oct. 19-23. The national exhibition is presented jointly by Oxfam America and the Education for Peace in Iraq Center. O-I lobby hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday. The Clement Gallery in the University of Toledo's Center for the Visual Arts, 620 Grove Place, is presenting Disconnection/Reconnection, a display of artork by Andrew J. Ortiz, through Nov. 12. An artist's lecture and reception is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in the CVA's Haigh Auditorium. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Space 237 Galleries, Studios & ClaySpace, 237 North Michigan Ave., will open its Fall 2004 Annual Exhibit with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 15. The exhibit, which runs through Dec. 17, features some 20 national and area artists. Information: 419-255-5117 or space237@toltbbs.com

The Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery in Owens Community College's Center for Fine and Performing Arts is presenting Group Session, a trio display of artwork by long-time friends Scott Horn, Carl Porccia, and Rene Spillis. The exhibit, which runs through Oct. 23, is being billed as an artistic reunion. The artists' use of found objects to create sculptures, paintings, and furniture reflects their common interest in recycling. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Information: 567-661-2721.
