20 North puts glass on display

20 North Gallery celebrates glass month with colorful beauties fashioned by a pair of popular artists: Tom McGlauchlin and Jack Schmidt. Opening reception will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Reservations for the popular Arty Party, at 7 p.m. April 30 in the Libbey Court at the Toledo Museum of Art, will be taken until April 25. The theme is "L'art de la Table" and area designers create centerpieces inspired by works of art from TMA's collection. Tickets range from $80 to $125 and proceeds benefit the museum. A portrait-and-figure show continues through March 27 in the Spectrum Friends of Fine Art Gallery in Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr. Next up will be the members show, from March 30 to April 24, followed by the spring show from April 27 to May 22. The compelling blue and brown photographs of Ukrainian photographer Boris Mikhailov, capturing poignant characters in the decaying post-Soviet era, are on display through May 27 in the Institute for the Humanities at the University of Michigan. The Michigan Fine Arts Competition exhibition features 93 pieces from 86 artists Friday through April 15 in the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. Awards will be presented at a ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and it is free and open to the public. This year, 279 Michigan artists submitted approximately 650 slides.
