Lake Erie West to honor arts supporter

The Lake Erie West Cultural Arts Awards gala is scheduled Saturday evening in the Owens-Illinois World Headquarters in downtown Toledo. LEWIE awards will be presented to Randy Hardy, Benjamin Culver, Anne Steinmetz, and the Ritz Theatre in Tiffin to recognize their support for the development of arts education programs. Jon Hendricks, Helen O Connell, and Jerry A. Reed will be inducted into the Lake Erie West Cultural Hall of Fame, located in SeaGate Convention Centre, for their lifetime cultural achievements. Spectrum Friends of Fine Art announces the winners of its annual Members Show Exhibition. The winners, selected by juror Leslie Adams, are: Mary Jane Erard, best of show; Jan Thomas Borgelt, first place; Bruce Watrol, second; Michael Walker, third, and Virginia Kretz and Robert Martin, honorable mentions. Bowen-Thompson Student Union and Fine Arts Center galleries, on the campus of Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, are showcasing the annual BFA Senior Thesis Exhibition, featuring work by BGSU students graduating with a bachelor of fine arts degree, through Thursday. Hours are 7 a.m. to midnight in the Union galleries and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center s Dorothy Uber Bryan and Willard Wankelman galleries.

The University of Toledo s Catherine S. Eberly Center for Women presents collage and mixed-media artwork by Claire Wilson through May 6. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The Eberly center is in room 168 of Tucker Hall, on the Bancroft Street campus.

Space 237, 237 North Michigan St., presents its 2005 spring exhibition, It s All Relative , April 15 through June 3. Work from more than 30 artists will be on display.

Richard and Carolyn Putney will present a program called Magnificent Florence at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Little Theater of the Toledo Museum of Art. As part of the Armchair Traveler series, the Putneys take the audience on virtual trips to faraway locales. Friday s trip includes an illustrated presentation about the artistic treasures, buildings, and urban spaces that are key elements of the Italian city. Tickets are $3 for art museum members, $4 for students and seniors, and $5 for nonmembers.
