The Arts Commission's Young Artists at Work program, which runs through Aug. 12, is developing murals for St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and Flatlanders Sculpture and Supply. The St. Vincent commission carries the theme "A Proud Past, a Promising Future" as part of the celebration of the hospital's 150th anniversary. The Flatlanders project, "The Earth Experiment," has been commissioned by gallery owner Ken Thompson.

The mural projects are under the instruction of Andres Orlowski, assisted by Adam Russell and Keturah A.N. Bobo. Students are also working with writing clinician Larry Levy of the Glass House Writing Project to create poetry expressing their thoughts and feelings on the theme of jazz as part of the Art in TARTA project.

The YAAW program, in its 12th year, brings together 25 youths, ages 14 to 18, to study and to practice painting and literary arts. They receive minimum wage pay and work 30 hours a week with fellow young artists and a faculty of local artists to complete public art projects. Information: 419-254-ARTS.
