Two art-glass exhibitions slated
9/28/2006The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo is sponsoring HotGlass 2006, showcasing more than 80 original studio glass pieces by local, national, and international artists. The show will run from Oct. 5 through Nov. 3 in the lobby of One SeaGate. A preview reception is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5. HotGlass 2006 will end with a gala on Nov. 3, featuring music, food, and live and silent auctions. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Kismet Gallery opens "Toledo Studio Hand-Blown Contemporary Art Glass" tomorrow in the gallery at 6819 West Central Ave. This exhibit, which runs through Oct. 28, opens with an artists reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Participants include Marty Christy, Mary Ellen Graham, Dale Heuberger, Steve Kemmerley, Randy Kuntz, Leonard Marty, Shawn Messenger, Matt Paskiet, Gary Rheil, Robin Schultes, John Sutton, Marvin Thorpe, and Jim Yaritto.
The Toledo Mennonite Church, 5501 Nebraska Ave., is presenting a quilt show from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The event, a fundraiser for the church's tutoring program, which helps Toledo Public School students learn to read, will also feature a Mexican meal and a coffeehouse style concert with Ten Mile Creek and other musical artists from 6:30 to 10 p.m. tomorrow. The Northwestern Ohio Watercolor Society opens Watercolorama Exhibition 2006 tomorrow in the Toledo Artists' Club in Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr. A reception will start at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow. Interpretations of Brazil, its people, and its natural beauty are the theme of Jon-Clair Gordon's digital watercolors, in an exhibit titled "Intercultural Touch from a Distance: Brazil." The exhibit opens Monday and runs through Oct. 29 in the library of Owens Community College's Findlay-area Campus, 3200 Bright Rd., Findlay. A reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 11. Library hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Sauder Village, 22611 St. Rt. 2, Archbold, is participating in a nationwide Quilt Pink day, a fundraising event to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Threads of Tradition, a quilt shop at the village, invites quilters of all levels to visit the shop Saturday to make a quilt block in support of breast cancer research. These blocks will be pieced together and sent to Better Homes and Gardens' American Patchwork and Quilting magazine for an online auction in May, with the proceeds going to the Komen Foundation.
Admission to the shop, which is inside the village, is free. Those wishing to visit only Threads of Tradition may request a shoppers' pass at the admissions desk. Village hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Information: 800-590-9755.
An exhibition of work by faculty at Studio Art Centers International opens Saturday and runs through Oct. 27 in the Willard Wankelman Gallery of Bowling Green State University's Fine Arts Center. Located in Florence, Italy, SACI is the largest U.S. university-level art school in Europe. BGSU sends an average of 30 students to study there each year. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
