Owens exhibit explores the human face

Owens Community College, 30335 Oregon Rd., Perrysburg, will open the exhibit Faces on Monday in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts. The exhibit in the Walter E. Terhune Gallery explores the human visage through a wide variety of styles and media. Portrait artist Leslie Adams will present a free lecture at 7:30 p.m. March 1 in room 111 of the center. A closing reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. March 25. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Spectrum: Friends of Fine Art in the Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr., announces the winners of its 2007 Spring Fever Show which is running through March 3. Jacquelyn Crissman will be the guest artist and lecturer as the Perrysburg Arts Club celebrates its first anniversary from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the 577 Foundation House, 577 East Front St., Perrysburg. Crissman is known for creating light and airy jewelry that incorporates the "spiral of life" in most of her designs. The lecture is free to the public.

The Toledo Society, the local chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America, is hosting an illustrated lecture titled The Early Akan Peoples of Ghana and Ivory Coast at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Little Theatre of the Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe St. The guest lecturer will be Nii Quarcoopome, curator of African Art at the Detroit Museum of Art. Sonflower Quilts and Gifts, 6600 Sylvania Ave., Sylvania, will host a sew-a-thon from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to celebrate the eighth annual Project Linus Make a Blanket Day. The public is invited to help make as many quilts as can be created in a day. Sewing machines will be provided. Donations will be accepted of 100 per cent cotton, kid-friendly fabric cut from 2 1/2 to 6 1/2 inches wide, in any length that can be sewn into quilts. The Toledo/Lucas County chapter of Project Linus donates quilts to Lucas County Children's Services so that each child entering foster care may be given a special blanket. Information: 419-885-4438.

The University Of Findlay, 1000 North Main St., Findlay, is hosting an exhibit of the work of senior art students created during their years of study at the university. The show runs through March 16 in the Dudley and Mary Lea Gallery of the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion.

The Findlay Art League, 117 West Crawford St., Findlay, is seeking entries for its 25th Juried Photography Show. Residents of northwest Ohio, 18 years and older, are eligible, as well as non-resident students enrolled in an educational institution in northwest Ohio. Entries must be original, framed, wired, and ready to be hung and never exhibited in any Findlay Art League show. Any photographic process is acceptable as long as it originated in a camera and was taken by the photographer entering the work. Entries will be accepted from 7 to 9 p.m. March 1 and 9 a.m. to noon March 3 in the league gallery. Realism in Watermedia, an exhibit by watercolor artist Christopher Leeper, has been rescheduled to run from March 14-April 6 in Campbell Learning Resources Center at Monroe County Community College, 1555 South Raisinville Rd., Monroe.
