Exhibits, performances, trade show set downtown news of art
8/30/2007Four days of arts events begin Sept. 13 with a trade show and professional development talks at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 North Michigan Ave. The evening of Sept. 14, Meet & Greet VI, a free artist-networking event, will operate with a shuttle-bus loop to several downtown galleries. The Artomatic 419 Lite show will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 15 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 16 in Fort Industry Square, 124 North Summit St. Innovative art work will be exhibited, and musicians and actors will perform. Also Sept. 15, artists across greater Toledo will open their studios to the public. Information: the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo at 419-254-2787.
"The Many Faces of Mud" opens today in Flatlanders Art Galleries, 11993 East U.S. 223, Blissfield, Mich. A public reception with the artists will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 9. The show features works made with clay using many different techniques by Rex Fogt, Linda Ziemke, Gregg Luginbuhl, John Leyland, Jim Lutomski, and Duane Bastian. Continuing through Sept. 29, the exhibit is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Information: 517-486-4591.
The 50th annual arts festival hosted by the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce will take place Sept. 9 on the grounds of Lourdes College, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania. More than 250 artists will display their works from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $2. Parking and shuttle service are free from Northview High School, the Burnham Building, and Harroun Park. Musical entertainment and a kids' area will be offered.
Rally for the Arts will fill the streets of downtown Perrysburg Sept. 15 during Harrison Rally Day. Sponsored by the Perrysburg Area Arts Council, about 100 local artists will be featured. A separate fine-arts area will highlight 24 juried artists competing for $1,000 in prizes. A reception for artists and the public will be 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 14 in D'vine Designs, 116 Louisiana Ave. Information: 419-873-2787.
At Bowling Green State University, the fourth annual show of student art from spring-break trips runs Sept. 7-19 in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Art Gallery. Hours for Contemporary Art: Western Spring Break Trip are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Also at BGSU, Dan Piersol, deputy director for programs at the Mississippi Museum of Art, will discuss "Mississippi: State of the Art" at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 in 204 Fine Arts Center on the Bowling Green campus. A BGSU graduate, Piersol is former curator of prints and drawings at the New Orleans Museum of Art.
