Workshops on grants, copyright laws slated at library

"No More Starving Artists: For Visual. Performance, and Literary Arts" is a series of workshops at Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 Michigan St. From 4 to 6 p.m. today, an artist's trade show will take place in the McMaster Center, followed by presentations until 8:30 about grants. Martin Nagy will discuss grant writing for the individual artist from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 26. Attorney Rick Martin will explain copyright rules from 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 3. And at 7 p.m. Oct. 17, a panel will discuss how fiscal sponsorship by an organization can help individual artists obtain grant money. Information: 419-259-5209.

Sculptor Ken Thompson gives a talk about his mostly large-scale metal and stone work at 7 tonight in Room 111 of Owens Community College's Center for Fine and Performing Arts, 30335 Oregon Rd., Perrysburg. A closing reception for his exhibit in the center's Terhune Gallery, "Ken Thompson: Other Work," will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow. The show ends Saturday.

Opening Sept. 21 in the Terhune Gallery will be the provocative sculptures of San Franciscan Al Honig. Flea markets and scrap yards are among the places Honig finds raw materials. He'll speak and show a retrospective of his work at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 in Room 111 of the center, followed by a reception in the lobby gallery. Honig's "Allegory and Life" will continue through Oct. 27. Events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Information: 567-661-2721.

The Potter's Guild juried show will open Sept. 23, and a public reception to meet the artists will be 7 p.m. Sept. 28 in the University of Toledo's Center for Visual Arts, adjacent to the Toledo Museum of Art. It will continue through Oct. 21. Closing Sunday will be "There are No Rules: Frank Gehry, Modernism, and the Center for the Visual Arts," which marks the 15th anniversary of the center, designed by Gehry.

Original watercolor illustrations by Dan Dailey will be displayed in Gallery 18 at the Toledo Museum of Art from Sept. 28 through Jan. 13. Dailey has created a book about the glass-blowing process for the museum called Glassigator with his daughter, Allison MacNeil Dailey. They'll be at the museum from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 10.

Closing Sept. 23 will be "Speaking Out: The Art of Elizabeth Catlett." The prints are a new gift to the museum. Closing the same day will be an exhibit by the Northwest Ohio Camera Club Council.

The all-media still life and flower show continues until Sept. 27 at the Toledo Artists' Club Gallery in the Toledo Botanical Garden, 5403 Elmer Dr. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

A 25th anniversary celebration of the Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 30 in the University of Findlay's Alumni Memorial Union. Featured authors will be Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart, who bring children's stories to life with their intricate, best-selling pop-up books. Admission is $5.
