Photography exhibition at CVA to feature works by 69 artists

Toledo Friends of Photography's national juried exhibition opens Jan. 13 and runs through Feb. 3 in the University of Toledo's Center for the Visual Arts adjacent to the Toledo Museum of Art. From a pool of more than 1,000 images submitted by 367 people, juror Todd Hido selected 83 photos by 69 people. Hido, a San Francisco photographer known for his unsettling images of the suburban landscape, will present a lecture and slide presentation of his work at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 in the CVA. Following his talk, a reception will be held and the winners will be announced. Information: 419-536-6122.

Kathi and Bill Oblinger are January's featured artists at Downtown Latte, 44 South St. Clair St. Working in acrylics, Bill paints landscapes and Kathi specializes in florals. A reception will be noon to 3 p.m. Saturday in the cafe. Information: 419-243-6032.

First Friday at the Toledo School for the Arts will spotlight school alums performing during a 30-minute show in the fourth- floor auditorium. Associated, an exhibition curated by Brian Steele, includes five artists from New Mexico, Texas, Ohio, and Michigan and opens tomorrow in Flatlanders Art Galleries, 11993 East U.S. 223 in Blissfield, Mich. Continuing through Feb. 17, it features work by Steele, Elena Baca, Jeffrey Dell, Jose L. Rodriguez, and Marcella Hackbardt. Information: 517-486-4591.
