Galleries slate Meet & Greet 7
4/10/2008Meet & Greet 7, the popular free tour of 10 downtown and nearby galleries, will be 6 to 10 p.m. April 18, with the bus loop operating from 6 to 9 p.m. The central location will be the Davis Building Gallery, 118 10th St., where there is parking. Participating galleries, many of which are opening exhibits that night, include Space 237, Parkwood Gallery, Paula Brown Gallery, Collingwood Arts Center, 20 North Gallery, Secor Gallery, Blue Heron Gallery, Truth Art Gallery, and the CVA Gallery (adjacent to the Toledo Museum of Art). An after-party will follow at Wesley's Bar & Grill. The event has been organized by the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo. Information: 419-254-ARTS and acgt.org.
The Toledo Area Glass Exhibition will open with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. April 18, in the Parkwood Gallery. It's the homecoming show for local artists who participated in Glass 3 in Washington earlier this year, featuring work by artists from Toledo, Washington, and Sunderland, England. Toledo and area glassmakers in the Parkwood show are Steve Cothern, Scott Darlington, John Hogan, Brynn Hurlstone, Steve Kemmerly, Leonard Marty, Joel O'Dorisio, Matthew Paskiet, Kristine Rumman, Robin Schultes, Mike Wallace, Danny White, and Homer Yarrito. The gallery is at 1838 Parkwood Ave., across Monroe Street from the Toledo Museum of Art.
The auction preview party is 7 to 9 tonight for the Toledo Federation of Art Societies' 8 1/2 x 11 Show in the Collingwood Arts Center. Opening bids may be made. Proceeds will benefit the federation. The auction and art raffle will conclude from 6 to 10 p.m. April 18 in the center's Gerber House, 2413 Collingwood Blvd. Information: 517-486-4591.
Space 237 will unveil Under Construction with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. April 18. An estimated 4,000 drawings by 90 university art students will be hung, creating a "cloud of ideas." A six-hour stained-glass workshop begins tonight from 6:30 to 9:30 at Owens Community College in the Workforce and Community Services building on Tracy Road in Northwood. Participants will have a choice of patterns, such as Celtic, Victorian, star, quilt, and heart. Panel sizes range from about 11 inches to 16 inches. Cutting, foiling, and soldering will be taught. Gerry Church's oil portraits are on display in the Croswell Opera House's art gallery through the end of the month. Church paints in the method of 15th century Flemish and Netherlandish masters, a technique allowing each of seven layers of paint to dry before the next layer is applied. The effect is of highlights, mid-tones, and shadows reminiscent of Renaissance-era portraiture. The gallery is at 129 East Maumee St., Adrian.
