Final '09 Art Walk is Sept. 17

The final Third Thursday Art Walk of 2009 will be 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 17 in the Arts Zone/Warehouse District. A 6 to 8 p.m. opening reception for Soft, "an exploration of girldom" by printmaker Michelle Carlson and painter Amy Seiffert, will be at the Madhouse Gallery, 1215 Jackson St. Beautiful desserts are promised.

Additional venues include MMK Gallery, 20 North Gallery, Sur St. Clair, the gallery above Jack Wilson's Studio, first-floor offices of Paul R. Sullivan AIA, Ahava Spa, The Little Gallery, Bozarts Fine Art and Music Gallery, Olive Street Studios, Schmidt and Messenger Studios, Hannon's Block Building, Secor Artist Studios, The Ford Gallery, Davis Building Gallery, Studio M Printmakers, Madhouse Gallery, and the Collingwood Art Center.

The free Art Walk is coordinated by the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo. Parking is available on the street, at the Erie Street Market south of Fifth Third Field between Erie and St. Clair streets, and at the Collingwood Art Center. Information: 419-259-2787. A map is at acgt.org.

Pat Healey's photographs are at Downtown Latte through the end of the month. Healey's subjects are from France, South America, Eastern Europe, New Zealand, and her South Toledo garden. A noon reception will be Sept. 26. Downtown Latte is at 44 South St. Clair St.

For its 2010 season, the Parkwood Gallery is accepting applications from local artists who have a new body of work. Deadline is Oct. 28. Download a prospectus at acgt.org/parkwood.

Entries are being accepted for the sixth Sculpture in the Park Exhibition in Ottawa Hills, sponsored by the Ottawa Hills Foundation. With a Feb. 1 deadline, all types of weather-resistant outdoor sculptures will be considered. Information: 419-537-0191 and artandwriting@ameritech.net.

The Portraits and People Show 2009 will accept entries from 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 15 and 16 in the Toledo Artists' Club at Toledo Botanical Garden. Juror will be Diana Attie. The show will be Oct. 23 through Nov. 19. Works must be for sale. Information: 419-531-4079.

A party to celebrate the reopening of the glass studio at Bowling Green State University will be 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 19 in Room 1200 of the Fine Arts Center. Glassblowing demos by alumni will be given and visiting artist Laura Donefer will be there. Information: rsdarli@bgsu.edu.

Two free talks at BGSU are Reframing African Art: The Contemporary, at 6 p.m. Monday by Tavy Aherne, an art historian at Indiana University, in 1101 Fine Arts Center.

At 7 p.m. Sept 17, independent animator Karen Aqua of Boston, who's made films since 1976 and has directed and animated segments for Sesame Street, will speak in Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater. Information: 419-372-8582 and sborgel@bgsu.edu.

Water and Earth is the work of watercolorists Don Groff and Janealla Smalley, and ceramicist Robert Minto, opening at 6 p.m. tomorrow in the Findlay Art League gallery, 117 West Crawford St. It will continue through Sept. 27.

During a 3 to 5 p.m. reception Sunday, Carol L. Miller will demonstrate the wet-on-wet oil technique she often uses to paint land and seascapes and still lifes. The exhibit continues through the end of September at Main Street Art & Glass, 325 Main St. in Delta. Information: 419-822-4099.

Peter Gilman's watercolors are at the Sanger branch library, 3030 West Central Ave., through Sept. 30. Gilman was a manufacturing engineer when he suffered a stroke in 1999 at the age of 53. During the years of intense therapy that followed, he learned to paint. Displayed are pieces ranging from his earliest efforts in 2001 to current works.
