Reception showcases work of graduating UT students

A reception for five graduating art students will be 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the University of Toledo's Center for the Visual Arts. Featured through April 25 will be photographs by Elizabeth Herren and Erin Morlock, paintings by Baylee Burrowes and Julie Cikra, and amalgamations of found objects and silk-screened printed images by Dean Bucher. The center is at 620 Grove Place, adjacent to the Toledo Museum of Art.

A display of art and writing produced since 2008 by nearly 200 faculty at the University of Toledo is displayed in the Carlson Library's Ward M. Canaday Center through April 30. The 2010 Authors and Artists Exhibit is a chance for faculty to show their work to the community. Information: 419-530-2170.

Call for artists: Art for Haiti seeks artists, musicians, art, and gift items for its 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. May 22 event in the Oliver House, 27 Broadway St. Proceeds from auctioned items will be split between the artist, who may also have a working booth, and the Hopital Communaute Haitianne in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. People creating new art are asked to consider incorporating a theme relating to Haiti, hope, or healing, and should register by April 9. A good-natured glass-blowing competition and demonstration among teachers from colleges around the country will be 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow in the Glass Pavilion at the Toledo Museum of Art.

Also tomorrow, tours will be given at 6 and 6:30 p.m. featuring a recent acquisition, The Crucifixion.

Saturday at 2 and 3 p.m., tours will look at art focusing on the subject of gluttony, one of the seven deadly sins. Tours meet in Libbey Court.

The lower-level's Community Galleries has a display in which local artists created works inspired by museum objects. They also wrote about the piece that inspired then and why. The artists at Quest for Fire Studios in the Secor Building will display these and other works through May 2.
