Celebrate the art of glass at museum's Glass Pavilion

'Nocturne,' 1978, by James McNeill Whistler, is on exhibit at the University of Michigan Museum of Art.

GlassFest: In the Garden, will be noon to 6 p.m. Sunday on the grounds of the Glass Pavilion at the Toledo Museum of Art. Glass-blowing demonstrations will be at 1, 2, and 3:30 p.m.; tours will be at 2 and 3 p.m., and hands-on activities for all ages, including contributing to a Chihuly-style chandelier made with recycled materials, will be ongoing. Dixieland music and jazz will be performed by New Orleans Party Asylum. People can make glass objects, a glass flower, or paint a tile at on-the-hour sessions that cost $25.

Also at the museum, a free screening of the 1979 film Hair will be at 8 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Little Theater. The museum is at 2445 Monroe St. Information: 419-255-8000.

• The Levis Commons Fine Art Fair will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 21 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Town Center at Levis Commons in Perrysburg. A variety of arts and crafts will be sold at 125 booths, and a children's art area will operate. Kerry Patrick Clark will perform at 6 Saturday. Information: theguild.org.

• An exhibit of watercolors by Walter Chapman and impressionistic oils by the late Ruskin Stone is at 20 North Gallery at 18 North St. Clair St. through Sept. 18. Chapman will do a painting demonstration at a 6 to 9 p.m. reception Aug. 26. Information: 419-241-2400.

• J&J Gallery features landscape paintings by Katie Todd; glass by KC Saint John, John Cramer, and Cody Nicely; usable wood pieces by Mike Mason, and jewelry by Chris Sanderson, Amy Beeler, Malissa Kuznicki, and Wile Collaborations. FREMONT

Hidden Treasures of the Hayes Museum opens Tuesday at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center and continues through February. Among dozens of items displayed will be a suit of armor said to have been used by Ferdinand Magellan during his travels and early design proposals for the Washington Monument. On Beauty and the Everyday: The Prints of James McNeill Whistler, set to run from Aug. 21 to Nov. 28, will feature more than 100 pieces from the University of Michigan Museum of Art's collection.

The exhibit will explore Whistler's illustrious life; his artistic themes ranging from portraiture to series from England, Italy, and France, and printmaking tools and techniques he used. In addition, it will look at the interests of Margaret Watson Parker, who donated her large Whistler collection to the museum.
